Many thanks. Do you know if, in British practice, the initial production of an item is designated "Mk I," or would that have been done "retrospectively," after a "Mk II" was to come upon the scene?
My curiosity is aroused by your description of the Mk II, which seems to be slightly smaller than the Mk III-IV. I have a three-draw of 1881, 2" objective lens, as you describe for Mk II, with W(broad arrow)D and serial, but not designated with a "Mk" or descriptive ("sig tel"). I wonder if it might represent the "Mk I."
