I would agree, fakery is surely a serious possiblity. The material is quite old and is hand sewn. There are some genuine moth holes and other imperfections. In any case, we shall be having the flag examined by an expert. or two.

I'm not terribly knowledgeable about Texas history, but read somewhere or another that there was a 2d Texas Infantry regiment in existence during the revolution commanded by Sherman and stationed on Houston's left wing at San Jacinto.
You are correct that the 2d Infantry of Civil War fame was not officially formed until 1861.
