The French 1763 & 1766 ''Charleville'' Muskets were also popular and became the preferred musket once the British troops started confiscating weapons as they could be smuggled in easier than the British musket. The ''Charleville'' had a smaller bore (0.69 caliber) and was usually a few inches longer. Here for an example:
