From Mr. Carr's post and Kephart's description (and illustration), I believe that Kephart had reference to the first of the three, the russet leather, albeit without an indication of rubber heels (on the contrary, he recommended placement of hob nails). (My dimming memory is, however, of rubber heels in my own experience, and to thicker soles than the single sole Kephart stipulated.)
