Were/are there any state militia, fraternal groups, or schools that use a green horsehair plume on their headgear? The plume that I have is identical in all respects to the regulation horsehair plumes used by the U.S. Army from 1872-1904 except that it is emerald green. The only branch that had emerald green piping by regulation was the medical corps but there were no plumed helmets authorized as none of the enlisted men were to be mounted. The officers (surgeons) did not wear helmets as they were considered staff officers so they wore the chapeau.
