I was in the 44th Engineers in 1973-4 in Korea. We wore a battalion subdued patch sewn on our fatigues on the left breast pocket. The unit was called the "Broken Heart Battalion" and the patch was a broken heart with no lettering.

We also wore a red and white version on our class A's hanging from the button of the left breast pocket.

No idea what authorized it.
