At least some members of the Michigan National Guard wore unit patches on the left as opposed to right pocket. In photographs in my collection all men wear the M1952 shirts and stiff fatigue caps. So this places the photos in the late 1950s or early 1960s. In Shelby Statonís book US Army Uniforms of the Cold War on page 130 is a photograph of a unit patch again on the left pocket ca. 1960.
