[Weapons] civil war enfield manufactures marks

I am looking for a source/sources that can help me identify the different makers marks and what they mean. I am writing a thesis on the conservation of 12 civil war enfield rifles, and have so far come across the numbers 17, and a roman numeral II. I have also found a J.T. or J.F. These are all on brass hardware, and I expect to find more, as well as marks on the iron components. I am hoping to trace the marks back to the different areas in which the parts were made to obtain an overall picture for each gun. So far the only sources I have found deal with marks back only as far as ~1900. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Starr
