Re: [AmRevolution] British Marines

The best published information on Royal Marines uniforms would still be in Field's "Britain's Sea Soldiers" published in 1924, volume 1 for the period discussed. It is now quite rare however. A more recent effort has been "Uniforms of the Royal Marines from 1664 to the present day" by George and Christopher Newark, with colour plates by Charles C. Stadden, (Pompadour Gallery, Romfurd, UK, 1997). This essentially follows Field's work.

However, be advised that Company Fellow James Kochan will soon be publishing a major study on this topic, drawn from his extensive research into British and other archives records. Indeed, I seem to see Jim more often at the Public Records Office near London than in other places! So look for future notices to that work.
