IF you look to Ashworth's Fife and Drum Manual or Scott's Infantry Tactics, you can see the progression of the tunes. The type of song, which quick scotch, for instance, was up to the principal musicians. Bruce and Emmett's Manual, c1861 is fairly representative of the type of song, by the 1860s, the music was a little different, but the types of tunes had not changed. There is a Zachary Taylor Military songster that exists in OCLC. Also look to the Fort Snelling Fife Book.
