Bill - Many Thanks for your interest and response - yes I am certain of the name and time period - and yes I am aware of the other units you mention as well as several other units which utilized the word "Washington". To be specific: There is an inscription on a scabbard which reads: Presented to Capt. J. Faulkner by the Washington Light Guard, December 9th, 1851. This piece was supposedly found by a picker in the Carolinas. Considerable internet research has only revealed one reference to a unit by this exact nasme and that is in Calif. You can review this by going to the California Military Museum site. Local research efforts by library and archive staff in northern Calif have thus far revealed nothing concrete. thanks again for your interest. Arnie
