The 1783 uniform is the one best known and described as "Short Coat Green with Same Lappels, Variety Button hole & Black Cuff & Collar." This comes from manuscript notes made on the 1783 North American Army List.

In 1780 leather caps were ordered at Charlestown for the infantry, helmets for the cavalry. Green cloth for uniforms for 600 men was ordered at the same time.
