[Gen'l Info] Military Unit ID

I have a WWII (maybe Korean War?) army portable field desk. It has the following stenciled on the top and front:

CO H 2ND BN 338 TH REGT BCT

I am having difficulty finding out about this. The way I am reading it is:

H Company, 2nd Battalion, 338th Regiment BCT.

I have not been able to come up with an explanation of BCT and I'm basically trying to figure out what this Company(?) function was in the war.

Even help on where I could go to research it would be helpful. Thanks a lot.
