Originally, this unit was organized as the 4th Recon Bn in the regular army in January 41.
It was activated in April 41. In May it was re-designated as the 84th Recon Bn (Armored) and and again re-designated as the 84th Armored Recon Bn. In Sept 43 it was converted to the 25th Cavalry Reconaissance Sqdn. It became a constabulary squadron in May 46. On December 48 it was deactivated and in 1954 activated as part of the 4th Armored Division.
In 1957, the 25th was consolidated with the 2nd Bn, 15th Armor, part of the 4th AD. In 1963 the 15th was transferred to the 1st Cav Div.I think they fought in Viet Nsam as part of the division.
The 25th won a Pres Unit Cit. in the Ardennes, the French Croix de Guerre with Palm for Normandy, the same for the Mosselle River and in 1950 a Fourragere.
It fought in Normany, Northern France, Rhineland,, the Ardennes and Central Europe.
Any of the series The US Army in WW II on those campaigns will give some detail on the exploits of the 25th. These volumes are very well indexed and referenced so you shouldn't have any problem finding out about their operations.
