Thank you for your interest. I have not been in contact with the SUVCW, however I have work with the other two sites you suggested. I am now convinced the photo I posted is the pre war uniform of the Smith Guard. The photo matches the general description of the uniform worn by the Smith Guard. The problem is that the 4th Michigan Infantry was issued gray uniforms by the state prior to leaving Michigan. They were also issued old rusty bell mouth muskets soon after leaving Michigan. The uniform is the photo could be thus described. However, I now believe the state issued a gray jacket not a frock coat. An interesting side note not is that the Tecumseh Volunteers also a part of the 4th Regiment wore Zouave uniforms.
