Cortlandt Way Starr, originally First Sergeant in Company I of the 37th regiment, is thought to have joined the 7th regiment after the Civil War and served in it, attaining officer rank, for maybe fifteen years in all. I need to confirm this but do not have access to a muster of the regiment or anything else except on the internet.
During the post war years he lived in Pelham, NY and was refered to as 'Colonel' and I have four swords of his, presumably denoting an officer. Finally, I have a photo of him in later life, in uniform but showing no sergeant's stripes.
I see that on your website plate #371 refers to the 7th regiment of 1869-1884. Likwise plate #72 refers to the 7th regiment of 1880-1890 with availability marked B, 2d
Ironically I used to live in Paxton, only some seven miles south of you post office box, but now am in South Africa.
