I saw this Signal Corps photo in a museum acccmpanied by the original Signal Corps caption: "This captured German gun position provides a good napping place for these tired 1st Division Doughboys July 17, 1918."
The "captured German position" contains a U.S./French 75mm field gun, M1897, and the ammo that it fires.
Is the caption incorrect, or could this be a recaptured gun? I'd think if that were the case, it would have been at least remarkable enough to receive some mention in the caption.
