I think Revere is an icon because of the 'midnight ride." Don't think he had much success as a soldier in the War for Independence and had many business problems.Maybe that's why he couldn't deliver cannon.
By the way, his grandson was killed at Gettysburg.
Again, by the way do you recall that insipid movie "Gettysburg" made by that man from Atlanta? There was scene where all the rebels related to heroes of the Founding were mentioned. The same could have been done for the Yankees. In addition to Revere, Alexander Hamilton and John Adams had descendants at Gettysburg. Think there were others but memory fails me.
