When it came to naming U.S. posts, what was the criteria? Camp infers somehing less than permanent (yet, there is Camp Pendleton, et al,). Presidio is obviously an inheritance from the Spanish/Meixcan eras. But, what about fort vs fortress? Barracks and conatonment also come to mind. Any thoughts?
