John, Sorry 'bout that! Let me try it this way:
1.(Home page for Va Hist Soc is va.historical.org.)
2.Go to "Research"
3.On Research page, under "Museums and Collections," to the right, click on "Search the Collections"
4.On "Welcome to the Catalog" page, click on "Search Museums"
5.On that page, click on "Combination Search"
6.On that page, enter as keywords "signal pistol confederate" [Evidently not case-dependent]
7.This brings up "Browse Report," a single item with the image of the "pistol" (left side only) at left [click on image to see that] I believe you reached this page before.
8.Now comes the trick: To RIGHT of the same box as 7, you'll see at the upper right a box that says "More." Clicking on that brings up the "back-up" info that I've called the "accession card."
You are correct, in that the site is timed and the URL for the pages will be labelled at the time of the session.
For short-cut, the descriptive info on this last entry says "Confederate Signal Pistol, English make, brass frame and barrel, belt hook on right side, steel ring in handle. About .31 calibre, 2 1/2 inch barrel, 8 inches overall. On left side of frame; 'W.D.' and British broad arrow, 'C.S.' in large letters and 'Carolina.'"
