Re: [WW II] 383rd Infantry, Cannon Company

Hello Don,

Info about the 383rd Infantry can be found in "Infantry Regiments of the US Army" by James A. Sawicki, Wyvern Publishers, 1981. This regiment is on pp. 543-544. You may find it in your library.

The cannon company of an infantry regiment had towed or self propelled artillery weapons (depending on the time and theater of operations). They were designed to provide the regimental commander with an immediately responsive source of large caliber fire to destroy the enemy and his obstacles from the path of his riflemen.

Best regards,

James B. Ronan II
