In 1852 the Columbia Fusileers were formed and mustered in on January 1853 and eventually out in 1857. Since this is a mining town and the lads may not have created a perfect military uniform I am looking for a few opinions as to how the uniforms might have looked. By 1854 they were uniformed well enough to stand along side of the Sonora Greys, “Making a requisition upon the United States Quartermaster General, they were provided with arms and accountrements. Their uniform was very neat and tasteful, being of gray cloth with black trimmings.”
Except for the "Fusileer" title and maybe an accoutrement that would designate them, I would assume they could dress in frocks or shell jackets to match either the U.S. Dragoons or even the 1st NYL.
Your opinions and help in this would be much appreciated.
