The U. S. Navy had many notable admirals and senior officers who served during World War II. The best place to start is with Samuel Eliot Morrison's excellent, multi-volume history of the U.S. Navy in World War II. It is available through Amazon.com, The Scholar's Bookshelf, and through other bookstores, I'm sure. You can purchase either the entire set or individual volumes on those phases in which you are interested. I recommend the entire set - it makes for great reading.
On line, I can recommend The Naval History Center. It has an excellent search engine and a very helpful staff. Their address is: http://www.history.navy.mil/
