Re: [AmRevolution] listerís light dragoons

This unit was also known as the Yorkshire Light Dragoons, raised 1779 (WO 1/616) disbanded 1783 (WO 26/31). Classed as a British Fencible unit and served in Great Britain. (source: Public Records Office: War Office and other military records, London, 1931)

1780 Army List (copy in Defence Library with some Mss notes for facings) under the section on Fencibles:
A Corps of Light Dragoons Maj. Comg Thomas Lister 4 Sep 79 ďyellowĒ. Fencible units served full time and had the same conditions as the regular army but their service was limited to Great Britain.

A short biographical note on Lister has appeared in our sister journal: The Journal of the Society for Army Historical Research, Vol. XXXV (1957) p 140. Thamas Lister was created Baron Ribblesdale in 1797 and died in 1826 at age 73. The 1779-1783 unit was disbanded at Craven, England; Lister later commande the Craven Legion of Yeomanry in the 1790s.

There seems to be no direct connection with America nor with the 16th Light Dragoons of the regular army.
