A rather strange uniform I must admit, with the light cavalry shoulder belt for ornate brush and pickers and what seems to be a plumed bicorn of the 1870s or 1880s. Also much too hazy to tell much else I fear. Would venture a post Civil War organization, not necessarily military. You will have to find out more about your ancestor's life to put it in context.
